"With regret, Manchester City FC announced that Roberto Mancini has been relieved of his position as manager of Manchester City," wrote City on the official website.

"The assistant manager Brian Kidd will temporarily take over the responsibilities in two games remaining this season and pre-season tour to the United States," the statement continued.

Mancini was appointed to handle City in December 2009, replacing Mark Hughes. He has led City won the Premier League trophy (2011-12), the FA Cup trophy (2010-11), and one Community Shield (2012).
